COMMUNITY SERVICE (100 hours required of Upper School Students)

Queen Anne School believes that education is incomplete without compassion and a commitment to action. Community service provides a sense of self-respect and joy that comes from sharing one’s self with others. As volunteers in the larger community, our students begin to think critically about the world around them and the needs of others, discovering that as individuals their actions can make a positive difference in the lives of others as well as their own.

Community service at Queen Anne School should be involvement that deals directly and personally with social and community needs beyond the QAS community. Before beginning a project, it must first be approved by the Community Service Coordinator (Ms. Lynn Krahling). The coordinator may not approve the project if she does not believe it meets the guidelines of acceptable outreach. Each class, in middle and upper school, may also carry out a class community service project, which is separate from the required individual hours. Upper school students take responsibility for finding and carrying out individual projects. Middle School students do not begin to log individual community service hours until the summer after 8th grade.

Opportunities for service:

Chesapeake Lighthouse for the Blind Day Camp and Technology Camp applications (must be 16 years old)
